Beneath all the hype of the tremendous College Park High School athletic teams, the J.V. Lady Softball Falcons are somehow flying under the radar with a dominating 14-0 league record (18-1 overall) in 2018. These ladies are taking out opponents with ease and often bringing in the mercy rule to let their foes get away “easily.” They have been sweeping every “one and one” series, with rivals such as Alhambra and Northgate this season.
Coached by Adam Flynn and Scott Wood, these girls are dominating everyone they face and taking no names. Led by lefty fireball pitchers Marissa Raynor (Junior) and Sophia Berryhill (Freshman) on the mound, the potent offense of these Lady Falcons isn’t even really needed. The imposing batting lineup of these ladies is second to none. Speed and contact gurus, Gwendolyn Miller (Freshman/OF, P) and Madeline Young (Sophomore/C), hit 1-2 in the order and set the table.
Next up is a Murderer’s Row that even the Bronx Bombers would be intimidated by. In the three through six spots in the batting order you will find Cassandra Heine (Sophomore/2B), Chloe Van Boekhout (Sophomore/1B,OF), Marissa Raynor (Junior/P,1B) and Lauren Firman (Junior/CF). On a side note, these three through six batters are rumored to be on the same summer college showcase travel team together. In addition, there is power hitting backstop, Jenna Piro (Freshman/C) and another imposing pitcher when she takes the mound in Hailey Barton (Freshman/P).
The CPHS Lady Falcons have a very strong next few years ahead of them with many wins, trophies and great times to follow.
