“Black Panther” Lives Up to the Hype

By: Emma Cole

“Black Panther” was released on February 16th, 2018 and stars Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, and  Danai Gurira. Black Panther was first introduced in 1966 and was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.

“Black Panther” follows T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman) who is set to become king after his father dies in a explosion. T’Challa lives in Wakanda, which is a city hidden as  farmland, but underneath it is a city of innovation which houses the strongest metal in the world, vibranium. After his cousin comes to Wakanda and wants to take the throne, T’Challa must fight him for the throne and his people. When the king is crowned they drink vibranium to get the powers of the Black Panther.

In the beginning of the movie there is a backstory to Wakanda, vibranium, and the Black Panther. The king of Wakanda T’Chaka dies in an explosion at an event. At the ceremony, M’Baku of the Jabari tribe, who practice old Wakandan ways, challenges T’Challa for the throne. T’Challa wants to take down Klaw after he gets a hold of vibranium from a British Museum. Nakia helps them get into a hidden bar where Klaw is going to sell the vibranium to an american buyer. They catch Klaw but his team rescues him while they are questioning him. T’Challa’s cousin Erik Killmonger ( Michael B. Jordan ) comes to Wakanda and challenges him for the throne. T’Challa and the others must fight to win it back.

The effects, set, and script were exceptional and added the perfect touch to the movie. The movie was a good addition to the Black Panther series. The choice of actors for the movie was amazing they all did a really good job playing the characters. The sets were super detailed and beautiful. The costumes were amazing. Some of them had a slight modern touch, but were all beautiful and stayed true to the original comic series. The effects added a very good touch to the  movie, for example, when the ship goes through the barrier and reveals Wakanda for what it really is, or when the necklace turns into the Black Panther’s suit made of vibranium, which was made by his sister, Shuri ( Letitia Wright ).

“Black Panther” was amazing and exceptional. Some of my favorite scenes from the movie are when they are in the hidden bar because the acting was done very well, the car chase scene was very action packed and well acted as well and when Erik shows up to Wakanda and reveals he is actually N’Jobu’s ( Sterling K. Brown) son.

The film’s director, Ryan Coogler ,did a very good job at portraying the original comic book series. The film was very well acted and scripted and they chose very good actors to portray the characters. The script and effects complimented the amazing cast and crew.
